Island Puzzle

Scattered pieces sit around the edge of the screen when Island Puzzle loads, with a faint outline of a beach hut or a palm tree showing through the empty board. The first pick is usually a corner or flat-edged piece, and dropping it into the right slot locks it in with a visible snap instead of a shaky, half-placed guess.

The piece tray groups roughly by color and shape instead of dumping everything into one pile, so a patch of blue sea is easier to pick out from a patch of green jungle. Several island scenes are on offer, a beach hut, a rowboat on the shore, a row of jungle animals, each built from its own set of pieces with its own edge shapes. Finished corners and edges stay locked once placed, so the board fills in from the outside toward the middle.

A lot of browser puzzles for younger players let a piece sit anywhere close to right; this one only accepts a piece once it sits in its exact slot, so the finished picture is the same clean image every time, not a rough approximation. A completed scene fills the board top to bottom in this puzzle game, and finishing one usually opens the next island picture to start on.

The flat-edged pieces are the ones to grab first; they build the frame of the picture before the curved, inner pieces have anywhere to go. Grouping the rest by color before placing any of them saves time, since a solid patch of sand looks different from a patch of sea even a few pieces away. The faint outline under the empty board works as a built-in guide for where large shapes like the hut or the boat should end up.
